MODALITIES & CREDENTIALS.
What Ontario employers expect, modality by modality. This is a working summary, not legal advice — the regulators have the final word.
BY MODALITY
MRI
CMRTO registration in MRI, or a cross-training path from another MRIT specialty. Siemens and GE experience are both in demand; overnight and weekend coverage pays a premium.
CT
CMRTO registration in radiography with CT experience or certification. Trauma and interventional exposure widen your options considerably.
SONOGRAPHY
Sonography Canada or ARDMS credentials, plus CMRTO registration in diagnostic medical sonography. Generalist, vascular, cardiac, and MSK all recruit separately.
RADIOGRAPHY
CMRTO registration in radiography. Community clinics value speed and patient flow; hospitals value trauma and portable experience.
MAMMOGRAPHY
Radiography registration plus mammography certification. OBSP-approved sites have additional volume requirements.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE
CMRTO registration in nuclear medicine. PET/CT experience is scarce across Canada and priced accordingly.
INTERNATIONALLY EDUCATED TECHNOLOGISTS
If you trained outside Canada, the sequence is usually: credential assessment, then the national certification exam for your modality, then provincial registration. We will tell you where you stand and which employers hire at each stage — including the ones that support you through the exam.
